Although you cannot (and should not) believe everything you read on social media, auto enthusiasts and fans of the Ford Bronco can’t help but hope that a tweet from Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley will ring true.
Prompted by a question from Twitter user, Powered by Tesla, and self-described shareholder as to why Ford does not have an EV variant for the Bronco, Farley eluded that the option may already be in the works or even currently exists.
Although entertainingly curt, the six-word response from Farley isn’t exactly groundbreaking news, though. The automaker said two years ago that the popular Bronco would have a hybrid trim in its lineup…eventually. Spy shots of the prototype undergoing testing have already been circulated, so an electric Ford Bronco is no longer the far-off concept of yesteryear. And, with Farley’s seemingly corroborating tweet, an electric Ford Bronco is actually well into development.
The Ford Ranger and Ford Bronco share a platform, and rumors are swirling that a plug-in hybrid variant will be part of the next generation of the Ranger lineup, adding to the automaker’s eco-friendly options that already includes the 2021 Ford Mustang MACH-E, all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, and 2022 Ford E-Transit work van.
